Earlier today, I yawned without thinking — one of those long, weary yawns your body gives when it’s past tired. My three-year-old looked at me, grabbed my hand with her tiny fingers, and gently pulled me toward the bed.
“Mummy, oya lie down and sleep.”
Just like that.
And in that moment, I remembered telling her dad the day before, “I really need to rest tomorrow.” I had done so much in the days leading up to that moment, yet somehow still found a way to keep going. But here was my little one — my mini angel — giving me the nudge I had ignored.
It felt like the Holy Spirit whispering through her small voice:
Rest is part of the work. Don’t skip it.
So I listened.
I did the few tasks that truly couldn’t wait, left the rest undone, ate to my satisfaction, and when God willing my second child also slept… I joined them.
And I woke up refreshed.
Not irritated.
Not overwhelmed.
Not snapping at tiny things because my body was running on fumes.
Just refreshed.
And yes — if you know a three-year-old, you know that the moment she got back home, my “shift” resumed. But this time, I showed up with renewed strength, a lighter heart, and a clearer mind.
All because I rested.
Today, the Holy Spirit whispered again:
Share this. Someone needs this reminder.
There are so many people working nonstop, carrying responsibilities day and night, and wondering why they feel burnt out, guilty, or stretched thin.
Here is God’s gentle reminder to you:
Rest is part of His natural design for you.
Rest is not laziness.
Rest is not quitting.
Rest is a break to help you come back stronger.
If you’ve been pushing and pushing, let this be your sign.
Pause.
Breathe.
Lie down if you need to.
Eat if your body is asking.
Hand over the rest to God — He knows how to handle what you can’t complete.
I hope this reaches you at the exact moment you need it.
May it be your timely reminder that even strength needs refilling.
Rest well, dear one.
You are not failing — you are human.
And God is pleased when you care for the body and mind He gave you.
